Hollywood Downtowner Inn

Today I drove into Hollywood and spent the better part of 2 hours walking up and down Sunset and Hollywood Blvd.....straying every now and then. It was good to just get out and walk around, but these photo trips always let me explore LA even more. I went from Hollywood into Little Armenia and then into Little Thailand. All in all a good outing...I saw alot of good signs.

Like the above......

It was a pretty unassuming motel on Hollywood Blvd, near the 101. As I was walking west on Hollywood Blvd I came upon it, first seeing the bottom of the sign and then seeing the rest. These small motels have so much character, I love them!

Hotel Eldorado

So I took a picture of this sign when I was downtown. It's on Spring St.....somewhere around 8th and 9th St. What really killed me is that the sign is larger, but I couldn't get a good enough view to capture it all. Below the "Eldorado" was an attached "Liquor" sign....I guess at some point there was a liquor store in one of the storefronts, I'm not sure. The building was in the process of being gutted when I took the picture. I wouldn't be surprised if this sign no longer existed....but maybe it's still there. When I tried to research on the hotel I couldn't come up with much. I got one website with different angles of the building.

Here

and it's on the left side of the picture, here

In the latter pic you can see the entire sign....you can also catch a glimpse of the large tree that was hampering my view when I snapped my pic.

I don't know what it was about this sign, but I loved it. I was walking around, with no clear path and just happened upon it. I like the faded colors, and of course how can you beat a hotel sign with a liquor sign attached.....I think that's what sold it for me....it added so much character to the sign. I can only imagine what it was like in it's heyday.

This is one of my favorites
